Loveland is a growing community with small town values that focuses on its residents, businesses and community leaders. The Downtown area has been revitalized to preserve the past and look toward the future with unique shops, antique stores, restaurants, coffee houses, art galleries and a weekly Farmer’s Market offering fresh locally grown vegetables. The centerpiece of downtown Loveland is the community’s performing arts center, the historic Rialto Theater. Completely restored to its original 1920 décor, the Rialto Theater was put on the National Register for Historic Places in 1988.
The newest member of the Poudre Valley Health System is Loveland’s regional hospital, Medical Center of the Rockies. Specializing in heart and trauma care, the facility is built on 91 acres of land near the northwest corner of Interstate 25 and U.S. 34. Set on lush grounds surrounded by bronze sculptures and benches are the public library, government offices, Chilson Recreation Center and Foote Lagoon. The Chilson Recreation Center offers swimming, a weight room, track, hot tub, racquetball, basketball as well as classes and activities. Foote Lagoon holds free summer concerts at this beautiful and informal area with a stage and tiered steps for seating. The Civic Center is also a popular place for a variety of events. In addition to the shopping area in downtown, Loveland has several shopping centers and a host of nationally known chain stores. Promenade Shops at Centerra is an open-air lifestyle center type shopping mall, hosting over 60 different shops and restaurants. Orchards Shopping Center has more than 40 stores, from hardware to software and several restaurants. Thompson Valley Towne Center has a number of small stores, restaurants, banking and other service providers. Columbine Shopping Center is centrally located and the Outlets at Loveland offer great prices and selections. The Shops Lifestyle Center features upscale stores, restaurants, services, sporting goods and department stores along with fountains, a skating rink, play area, sculpture park, nature trails and outdoor seating. Recreation areas near Loveland include Larimer County Parks and Open Space which includes Devil’s Backbone, Carter Lake, Pinewood Reservoir, Flatiron Reservoir and Ramsay-Shockey Open Space. Just north of Loveland is Horsetooth Mountain Park and Horsetooth Reservoir, where hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, fishing and boating are favorite activities. Big Thompson Canyon features breathtaking scenery and is the home of Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep. Rocky Mountain National Park, 30 miles north of Loveland, is the number one vacation destination in Colorado. There are 355 miles of trails, 600 campsites and more than 140 lakes in the park. Trail Ridge Road cuts through the middle of Rocky Mountain National Park. At over 12,000 feet in elevation, it is the highest paved road in the country. Wildflowers and distant peaks are set against towering snow banks, even in the summer. The road is open from Memorial Day to October. |
